A Fun, Relaxed & Super Stylish Smock Alley Wedding – Laura & Brian
If you’re dreaming of a Smock Alley wedding that feels creative, relaxed, and full of personality then Laura & Brian’s spring celebration is the perfect inspiration. I had the absolute joy of photographing their day earlier this year and honestly it was the kind of wedding that reminds me exactly why I love what I do. Gorgeous couple, gorgeous energy, and one of Dublin’s most atmospheric venues. What more could you want?
Morning Prep at the FITZWILLIAM
The morning started in the elegant Fitzwilliam Hotel on St. Stephen’s Green, where Laura and Brian got ready with their wedding parties — and their adorable baby, who completely stole the show. The rooms were full of laughter, coffee, music, and that excited “it’s really happening” buzz that I just love capturing. The Fitzwilliam is such a treat for prep photos: loads of natural light, modern interiors, and views right over the Green.
SMOCK ALLEY WEDDING CEREMONY
From there, we made our way to their Smock Alley Theatre ceremony — one of Dublin’s most iconic, atmospheric wedding venues. If you’ve never been, imagine historic stone walls, warm candlelight, and that gorgeous sense of old-world charm. It’s no wonder so many couples fall in love with the idea of a Smock Alley wedding; the place just radiates romance. Their ceremony was personal, emotional, and punctuated with plenty of laughter. Exactly how a wedding should be.
After the “I dos,” everyone spilled into the courtyard for drinks. Spring sunshine, colourful confetti, and plenty of hugs made it such a beautiful moment to document. Smock Alley’s unique nooks and textures are a dream for candid documentary photography — perfect for couples who want creativity without anything feeling staged.
Once guests were happily sipping and mingling, we snuck off for portraits around the cobbled streets of Temple Barand the leafy pathways of St. Stephen’s Green. These locations are classic, but they’re classic for a reason — vibrant, romantic, and full of life. Laura & Brian embraced it all, laughing their way through the crowds and making the most of the city’s spring glow.
Dinner took place at the very cool and very delicious Coppinger Row — the ideal choice for couples planning a less-traditional Dublin city wedding. Think incredible food, a cosy-but-chic vibe, and the sound of glasses clinking beneath soft amber lighting. Speeches here were heartfelt and hilarious in equal measure.
And then? The party really began. Two insanely talented local musicians kept everyone dancing, singing, and shouting along late into the night. Before I left, we took a little wander for some nighttime portraits on the Dublin streets — neon lights, reflections on rainy pavements, and that electric city energy. The perfect ending to a perfect day.
If you’re planning your own Smock Alley wedding and you love creative, storytelling photography with a fun, relaxed vibe — I’d absolutely love to chat.
